Bio

Sarah Stacke (b. 1978) is originally from Edina, Minnesota and is now based in Brooklyn, New York and Durham, North Carolina. She began her career in 2000 as an assistant to Burt Glinn of Magnum Photos. From 2004 to 2008 she worked as a photographer for the Minnesota House of Representatives during the legislative sessions and spent the interim in New York and working in Vietnam, Ghana, Bangladesh, Croatia and Haiti. In 2008 Sarah was the recipient of a grant from OverExposure Media to document eight communities in Minneapolis and Saint Paul. In 2009 she received a grant from the city of Saint Paul to work with a Minnesota based non-profit on a multi-faceted photography project designed to engage Saint Paul community members, promote the arts, support local businesses and encourage an appreciation of the community’s diversity. Sarah is currently completing personal projects in the U.S.A., South Africa and Zimbabwe and shoots for various publications and organizations including NYPL LIVE and the internationally recognized non-profit storytelling group, The Moth. She is pursuing a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies with a focus in African and African American Studies at Duke University.
